Typically, colleges/universities need 3 things from you to apply:
1) Online (or paper) application
2) High School Transcript (from Parchment)
3) SAT/ACT score(s) - Test Optional
*However, institutions are Test Optional this year, but may still SAT/ACT score (s) for Merit-Based Scholarships. Also, they may require additional things i.e. application fee. Please see each schools requirements. Google Classroom folder "Where to Start" has step by step on how to create a Parchment account and send transcripts.

The Common Application

The common application is a tool used by many colleges and universities nationwide that allows a student to apply to multiple institutions in one place. The common app opened on August 1, 2021 for the 2021-2022 cycle. The common application can be most effective to use when applying to more than one school. If you are planning to apply to a single school it is recommended to use the institutions application instead to avoid extra work. For example, if you are looking into applying to Kettering University, you can apply using the common application OR the application itself located on their website.

Take a look a the following video for intro on using the Common Application.

Early Action vs. Early Decision

They say the earlier the better, right? True, however, when applying to colleges and universities you want to make sure you know what the difference is between these two. If an application says Early Action, that just means you will be applying to the institution by November 1 of that year and will get an early admissions decision (usually) before Christmas break. Early Decision on the other hand, means you are "binding" or "committing" to that institution and you must attend there.

HBCU's

Historically Black Colleges and Universities are defined as  institutions of higher education in the United States that were established before 1964 with the intention of primarily serving the African-American community. They have always allowed admission to students of all races. HBCUs offer all students, regardless of race, an opportunity to develop their skills and talents.
